Medication is often a critical component of mental health care. Many mental health issues stem from changes in brain chemistry. Medication can help regulate brain activity to relieve symptoms, restore quality of life, and prevent future episodes. We stay up-to-date on the latest research on psychotropic medications and use an evidence-based approach to prescribing, balancing the safety, tolerability, effectiveness, cost and simplicity of treatments. We also make sure your psychiatric medications are safe to combine with other medications, vitamins, or supplements you may be taking.
We do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to mental health. While many mental health issues are related to changes in brain chemistry, sleep, nutrition, exercise, and other lifestyle factors also play a critical role in a person’s sense of well-being. Each person’s experience is unique and we address every patient’s set of circumstances holistically.
We have found that for many people, the combination of medications and psychotherapy work better than either one alone. We are trained in multiple styles of psychotherapy and tailor our approach to the needs and goals of the individual. In general, we feel best equipped to assist with time-limited and problem focused therapy. We collaborate with other providers in the community and can offer recommendations and referrals for excellent therapists to provide longer-term or more intensive therapy when needed.
You may have a current psychiatrist, but are interested in a second opinion. Dr. Walton is happy to work with you and your current psychiatrist to provide a “fresh set of eyes” to help improve your outcomes.
